The Classes You Need to Get a Texas Real Estate License
You may be surprised to find out how fast and convenient it
can be to take classes to become a licensed Texas Real Estate
Agent. Our friendly and well trained counselors can walk you
through each step of the process.
How to Get a Texas Real Estate License
1. Successfully Complete the Education Requirements
The Texas Real Estate Commission requires you to have the equivalent of 210 classroom hours (seven 30-hour classes) before you are able to apply for a Texas real estate license.
You will need to successfully complete 30 hours of Principles I, 30 hours of Principles II, 30 hours of Law of Contracts, 30 hours of Law of Agency, 30 hours of an additional core real estate course and another four semesters (60 classroom) hours in core courses or in related courses acceptable to the Commission.
AIRE cannot evaluate your college transcripts and tell you how many courses you will need. You will need to determine this based on the lists provided by the real estate commission. (TREC approved Core courses; TREC approved related courses)
2. Submit Evaluation of Education Documents
Once you have completed all the Commission requirements, you will need to fill out the Evaluation of Education Document Form and send copies of your college transcript and certificates to the Real Estate Commission. This process generally takes 10 business days.

3. File your Application
Once TREC notifies you that your education requirements have been met, you are ready to submit the real estate application and required fees to the Texas Real Estate Commission. By filing this online it will speed up the application process considerably. (Application For Inactive Salesperson License). Once your application has been received, processed and accepted, you will receive notification that you may obtain a copy of the Candidate Information Brochure (CIB) to register for the exam. A copy of the CIB can be downloaded from the web site at http://www.psiexams.com. Please DO NOT attempt to register for the exam without first receiving notification from TREC.
4. Prepare for Exam
The Austin Institute of Real Estate offers live and correspondence
courses that cover the material you will need to know for the
State exam. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE THIS COURSE.
IT'S GUARANTEED TO HELP YOU PASS THE STATE EXAM.*
5. Take State Licensing Exam
The State exam is divided into two parts, a theory portion
(based on National practices) and a Texas-specific portion.
Once you have successfully passed the State examination, if
you elected to be an active agent, your broker will receive
your license. You may then start selling real estate.
*The live prep course is guaranteed and refundable
only if you take all your courses in a live classroom setting
at AIRE and you do not pass the state exam on your first try.
